Training Workshop

On August 13–17, 2012 a training Workshop was hold in Armenia on cultivation technologies of apricot orchards under the TCPARM3302 Apricot Genetic Resources Conservation and Utilization Project.
The workshop was organized by FAO Armenia in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Armenia. The main objective of the workshop was introduction of the current situation of apricot cultivation in Armenia and presentation of the best international practices.

Support to the Government of Armenia in elaboration of the TCP project document for Establishment of Apricot Collection Orchards for the Purpose of Genetic Fund Preservatio.
The Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Armenia applied to FAO asking to provide technical assistance to the Government of Armenia in elaboration of the TCP project document for Establishment of Apricot Collection Orchards for the Purpose of Genetic Fund Preservation.
For this purpose the FAO Mission was in Armenia from 29th of June till 6th of July. Within the frame of work of the Mission meetings were held with the representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, agricultural scientific centres, State Agrarian University, as far as with other interested organizations and farmers. Visits were arranged to scientific centres of Ministry of Agriculture, Armenian State Agrarian University, to several communities in Ararat and Armavir marzes to find out about apricot production process and main problems.
A two day seminar was conducted to draw up the mentioned document. The participants of the workshop were representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Scientific Centres working in agricultural sphere, Armenian State Agricultural University, Marz agricultural support Centres as well as organizations and farmers involved in apricot production.
During the workshop the main problems in apricot production in Armenia and the importance of establishment of collection orchards for retaining apricot genetic fund were discussed.
For this purpose by the end of the seminar recommendations were submitted to the FAO Mission. Based on these suggestions the program should include three directions mentioned below.
