Academic background

Dr Pavlovic graduated from Medical Faculty in Novi Sad in 1981. Over many years, she had advanced studies at Medical Faculty in Novi Sad . On the 17th June 1988, she passed specialist examination in hygiene (nutrition) at Medical Faculty in Novi Sad ; title of the thesis  “Nutritional status of school children in Subotica assessed by anthropometrics parameters”. Her Master degree from July 1990, with the thesis “Nutrition quality of school meals and nutritional status of school children in Subotica ”, was from the Medical Faculty in Novi Sad . Her Doctoral thesis “Risk factors of cardiovascular diseases in school children”, November 1994, was also from the Medical Faculty in Novi Sad , and she subsequently was honored by the doctoral degree at the University of Novi Sad on 23rd June 1995. In 1999 she got certificates in ‘’Health Care Management” in ECPD ( European Center for Peace Development) organization. In 2005 she got certificates in “Health Promotion” in School of Public Health at the University of Belgrade . She has also participated in a number of seminars organized by FAO, ILSI and WHO Europe.

Titles and advancement

By decision of Republic Ministry of Science and Technology - Commission for acquiring scientific titles - in Belgrade , on the 29th January 1997, she got the title of research associate of Medical Faculty in Novi Sad , and on the 29th November 1997, and the same title at the Medical Faculty in Belgrade - field of hygiene nutrition. On 19th June 2002 she acquired the title Associate Research Professor by decision of Republic Ministry of Science and Technology- Commission for acquiring scientific titles. On the 21st April 1994, the Academic Council of Medical Faculty, University of Belgrade and Novi Sad (the 8th June, 1994) appointed her a mentor in the field of hygiene for advanced training at the mentioned Faculties. She became a Registered Public Health Nutritionist (RPHNutr) and member of The Nutrition Society in UK in 2002. She became a FAO Expert in Nutrition in 2003.In May 2006 she got title Primarijus from the Ministry of Health in Serbia .

Present and previous positions

·         Presently working in Institute for Medical Research, Department of Nutrition and Metabolism at the University of Belgrade , 2006

·          Head of Nutrition Department in Public Health Institute, Subotica , appointed April 2001.

·         Vice president of the Vojvodina’s Medical Doctor Association, 2004.

Assistant manager for medical affairs in Public Health Institute, Subotica , June 1998 to April 2001.

·         Created and the president the non-governmental organization ’’NUTRIECOHEALTH’’: Center for nutrition, ecology, fitness and health promotion and became (http://.www.nutriecohealth.org.yu), September 2001.

·         Appointed manager of Regional Center for Nutrition, November 1998.

·         Appointed a president of Public Health Institute’s Expert Council on the February 1998.  

·         Appointed Head of Section of Hygiene and Environment Protection, and Chief of Nutrition and the School Hygiene Department, April 1996 to the June 1998. During her period as Head, the Institute and Hygiene Department got the Quality System Certificate from IQNET ONORM EN ISO 9002. She established the basic methodology for food quality and  safety control for imported food and domestic products according to  national regulations and standards and Codex Alimentarius. 

·         Creator and first president of the Society of medical doctors in preventive medicine in Vojvodina’s Medical Doctor Association, Subotica , 1992 - 1997.

·         Appointed head of Hygiene, food and nutrition Section in Public Health Institute, Subotica , September 1988.

Research Projects and Studies

1.     Created a program on cardiovascular diseases risk factors prevention in pre-school age “My heart, healthy heart” (Public Health Institute, Subotica ) carried out from 1995.

2.     Coordinator of the project (at regional level): “Following the progress towards achieving the aims of the World Summit for children in Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ” (Public Health Institute, in collaboration with UNICEF) in 1996.

3.     Coordinator of the project (at regional level): “Evaluation of health condition and nutritional status of refugee population in FR Yugoslavia” (Public Health Institute, World Health Organization) in 1998.

4.     Leading consultant for research, monitoring and correction of nutrition quality, member of scientific board and coordination team for statistical data processing, as well as member of the scientific team for suggesting prevention measures for intervention, in the project: JUSAD - “Yugoslav study of atherosclerosis precursors in school children” (Medical Faculty - Belgrade - University Children’s Clinic) in 1998 and 2002/2003

5.     Member of sub-project research team and leading researcher of a pilot sub-project for school children in the project: “Health condition, health needs and health care use of population in Serbia ” (Public Health Institute), North Backa Region 1998.

6.     Member of project research team in Serbia , leading researcher of the project: “Health condition, health needs and health care use of population in Serbia ”, North Backa Region (WHO, UNICEF, 2000).

7.     Member of research team and leading researcher in Subotica on the project: ’’Health and risk factors for cardiovascular diseases in schoolchildren and youth’’. Ministry of science, technology and development of Serbia , and Medical faculty Novi Sad 2002/2003.

8.     Member of research team on the project: ’’Nutrition as a risk factor, prophylactic and therapeutic factor for health and non-communicable diseases in population’’. Ministry for science, technology and development of Serbia , Institute for medical research, Belgrade 2002.

9.     Member of research team in the project: ’’Growth and development of children in Serbia ’’, UNICEF-Belgrade 2002/2003.

10. Member or a research team as expert nutrition consultant on the project: "Joint Assessment mission of needs for internally displaced persons in Serbia and Montenegro ", JAM-Joint Assessment Mission UNHCR & ICRC from 2003.

11. Member or a research team as expert nutrition consultant on the project: "Joint Assessment mission of needs for refugees in Serbia and Montenegro", JAM-Joint Assessment Mission WFP & UNHCR from 17.02 to 07.03 2003.

Professional Associations, Consultancies, Working Groups

She is a member of a number of associations including: Committee of Federation of European Nutrition Societies (FENS), EANS (European Academy of Nutrition Science), European childhood obesity group (ECOG), World Heart Federation (WHF), International Group for Prevention of Atherosclerosis in the Childhood,  Association for Nutrition Improvement of Serbian and Yugoslav people, Yugoslav Board for Prevention of atherosclerosis and Yugoslav association for study of obesity, Vojvodina’s Medical Association of Yugoslav Board for Lipids, , and the Committee of Preventive Medicine in Serbia, Yugoslav and European Anthropology Association.

She was appointed a member of National committee for Prevention of ishemic heart diseases in clinical practice for clinical guidelines for medical doctors in Serbia in 2002, Member of The Nutrition Society in UK (2002), member of commission of the Ministry of Health in Serbia for getting advanced title of the specialist of hygiene, member of chairmanship of the presidency of preventive medicine association in Serbia.

She is a member of group for monitoring nutritional status of children in Serbia and collaborator in updating the WHO Global Database on Child Growth and Malnutrition. She took part in working out reference values of lipid parameters for children and youth in collaboration with other group members on the territory of Serbia and Yugoslavia , in 1993/94.

She is a member of National working group for Monitoring Growth and Development in Children. She established the model of longitudinal monitoring of nutritional status of population in North Backa Region especially children and made reference values for anthropometrics parameters. This model is used on national level.

She is the creator and president of the Nutrition and physical activity promotion festival-World Food day celebration, which started in 1999 in Subotica . From 2001 her model of World food day celebration in Subotica was adopted by the FAO SEUR office in Budapest as a model of whole country, and in 2002/2003 for all CEE Countries. She is a collaborator of FAO Sub-regional office in Budapest member of AgroWeb Network group for CEE countries as an author of AgroWeb Serbia and Montenegro and Program and National coordinator for sub-portal Food and Nutrition and World Food Day celebration Internet information.

She was nominated as FAO Expert TCDC/TCCT in Nutrition in 2003 and Program Coordinator for WFD Celebration in CEE and NIS countries with FAO SEUR   Budapest Office support. (http://www.fao.org/Regional/SEUR/  and http://www.zzzzsu.org.yu/aw).

She became a member of Steering Committee  CEECFOODS network (FAOSEUR support) and represetative of country in 2003.

She is  the  coordinator of the Network  for capacity Development in Nutrition in CEE countries from 2006.

Awards & Honors

Awarded a diploma and medallion from the Medical Association in Subotica and Vojvodina on the 7th Yugoslav Symposium about Hyperlipoprotheinaemia in 2000 in Novi Sad , and got the first prize for the best poster on symposium. Awarded the first prize for the best work presented at the 1st Balkan Congress on Obesity held on February 7-9 2003 in Athens , Greece . She got the annual award for research work in Vojvodina from the Medical Doctors Association in 2003.

From the year 1998, she became member of the editorial board of the journals “Food and nutrition”, “Food as medicine” (expert assistant), and from 1999, “The Herald”, and "Serbian archive" (referee).From the year 2006 she became member of the Advisory Board of the Bulletin of the National Nutrition Institute in Cairo , Egipt.

Publications and participation on the meetings

She actively takes part in scientific meetings, congresses, symposiums in the country and abroad. Up to now, she has over a 260 published papers, abstracts and reports in domestic and international peer reviewed journals. She is the author and/or editor of 17 published books or monographs and 11 software applications in the field of food and nutrition and other activities of preventive medicine.
