Taking into account the reorientation and restructuring of ESCORENA agreed on by the Network Coordinators in the 80’s, the Sunflower Research Network decided to establish different Working Groups to facilitate a better division of the work to be done in the future.

At its latest structure the Network consisted of six Working Groups:

  •  Experimentation on sunflower cultivars
  •  Identification, study and utilization in breeding programs of new CMS sources
  •  Genetics studies of agronomic physiological and biochemical characters
  •  Evaluation of wild Helianthus species
  •  Use of biotechnology in sunflower breeding
  •  Studies on population dynamics of sunflower pathogens and their control

A new structure of Working Groups is planned for the reorientation of the Network activities in order to respond better to the new market demands and change in the environmental conditions.
