As a final act of the conference, the young researchers paid tribute to the late Hungarian MAP researcher,

DR. TYIHÁK, Ernő (1933-2017)

As a chemical engineer graduate, Dr. Tyihák started his career in the Research Institute for MAPs, in1958. As an enthusiastic young researcher, he soon became committed to the analytical study of MAPs and as such he excelled in the chemical study of essential oil species, among other Matricaria chamomilla (Chamomilla recutita). Since 1983, he was engaged in plant resistance investigations, at the Institute for Plant Protection of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences: he was also instrumental in organizing the Department for Resistance-biology and Biochemistry. In 1994, he was awarded the scientific degree Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He is author of numerous scientific publications, and owner of 25 patents on his researches on the isolation of anti-tumor agents, special peptides (Iso-polypeptides), formaldehyde research, development of Over-Pressure Liquid Chromatography (OPLC) and the so called BioArena.

As a titular Assistant Professor of the Semmelweis University, Budapest, and titular professor of the Szeged University of Sciences, he was active in educating the future generations of young medicinal plant researchers.

We will keep him in our good memory.
